To Improve Your Health, Lose Your Belly Fat

Sure, belly fat is unattractive. Your clothes don't fit right and you may even be relegated to wearing two different sizes of clothing to compensate for your apple-shaped body. Smooth body lines are everyone's desires, but what you may not be aware of is how dangerous belly fat is to your life, not just your appearance.
Obesity is a worldwide health problem. In the United States alone, 66% of the American population is overweight. Being overweight is unhealthy in its own right, but belly fat is particularly dangerous, as it is linked to heart disease, type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
Belly fat "leaks" fatty acids into the bloodstream, affecting the liver, the heart and other major organs. Scientific studies have determined that the size of your waist is a great indicator of how liable you are to develop these diseases. A waist size of 39 inches (or about 1 meter), or more, puts your life at risk.
Being overweight is linked to diabetes in that it causes insulin resistance. Blood sugar levels are out of whack. Blood vessels become clogged with glucose and other clogging materials that fat introduces, and, as a result, clogged arteries leads to heart disease.
Heart disease and stroke go hand in hand. A stroke happens when blood vessels in the brain explode (from being clogged). If the brain goes without oxygen for as little as 6 minutes, areas of the brain affected will die. Belly fat is directly linked to clogged blood vessels.
Consider the history of your family when determining your risk factors for heart disease, stroke and/or diabetes. If your family has these problems, you likely do as well. Having extra weight only makes the likelihood that you will develop these problems even stronger.
You may want to reduce your belly fat to look better, and to be sure, that a good reason. But the more important reason is, truly, the condition of your health. What's the point of looking good if you die from something completely preventable? Head off the problems of heart disease, stroke and diabetes by trimming the belly fat before these diseases become your own.
What's it going to take to put yourself in control of your health and lose your belly fat? The three factors you need to take into consideration are your diet, your activity levels and the amount of restful sleep you get, which aids in stress reduction. Even small, gradual changes will help and eventually, when that fat is gone, you will know that you not only look and feel great, but your health is much improved.
